Writer / Director DAN REED Novelist / Graphic Novel Writer / Script Consultant KEVIN J.
ANDERSON

THE CREATORS OF KAROUSEL: SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

The graphic novel was written by Kevin J. Anderson, as a prequel to the “Karousel” film script written by Dan Reed. When live performances were halted during the pandemic, Dan penned the script. All the artwork in the videos and on this website is just a sample of the hundreds of concept art panels Dan has created for the project.

Kevin J. Anderson

Novelist / Graphic Novel Writer / Script Consultant

Kevin J. Anderson has published more than 190 books, fifty-eight of which have been national or international bestsellers. Kevin has 24 million copies in print in thirty-four languages. His most recent novels are Nether Station, Horn Dogs, Persephone, and Princess of Dune (with Brian Herbert). He has written numerous novels in the Star Wars, X-Files, and Dune universes, as well as the unique Clockwork Angels steampunk trilogy with legendary ‘RUSH’ drummer Neil Peart, based on the last studio album from the band. His original works include the Saga of Seven Suns series, humorous Dan Shamble, Zombie P.I. series and the epic fantasy trilogy Terra Incognita, for which he also produced and wrote the lyrics for three companion rock albums (the third of which includes two songs with vocals by Dan Reed).

Anderson has edited numerous anthologies, written comics and games, and he worked on the recent films Dune: Part One and Part Two from Legendary Entertainment as Script Consultant and co-producer, respectively, as well as co-producer on the Dune: Prophecy TV series from MAX (which is based on on of his novels with Brian Herbert). He has other projects in development, including ‘KAROUSEL’ with Dan Reed, and the graphic novel prequel, ‘Survival of the Fittest’ detailing the violent beginnings of characters who will inhabit a much wider cinematic universe in the months and years to come.

Dan Reed was introduced to Kevin through a mutual musician friend and colleague, Bob Madsen. Upon meeting at the Prague ComiCon a few years back, Kevin and Dan connected immediately on a film script Reed had written during the global lockdowns. Dan invited Kevin on as Script Consultant, and once they mind melded, realizing they had many of the same roots in the love for science fiction, music and movies, they continued to brainstorm on how to bring the exciting and prophetic world of Karousel to audiences of every generation.

Dan Reed

Writer / Director / Musician / Artist

A prolific and versatile screenplay writer, producer, director, artist and musician with over 35 years of experience in crafting compelling stories, music albums, and acting. Reed has composed the music and lyrics for 14 albums and multiple film soundtracks, selling over 2 million albums globally, and has worked with Directors Gus Van Sant, Zalman King and Dominic Sena, and film mentor Loren Bivens who taught screenplay writing and film production to the once young Coen Brothers during their time at University in Texas. Dan is passionate about blending narrative and sound to create immersive cinematic experiences. Adept at managing all phases of production from conception to post-production, with a unique ability to create music and concept art that enhances his storytelling.

Reed began his career in ‘Dan Reed Network’, a top original music club band in the American NW which led to a record deal with Polygram Records, and toured the world with artists The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, UB40. He attended Film School in Vancouver, Canada and Portland, Oregon, studying film production, editing, cinematography, and screenplay writing. In his hometown of Portland, Oregon Dan performed in numerous plays, musicals, TV shows and Films, while continuously writing and recording music and penning over 10 screenplays. Directing over 20 short and long form Music Videos, 2 Short Films, and writing/co-producing/editing and acting in the feature film ‘Zigzag’ which lived on Billboard’s Top 20 Direct to Video Chart for over 3 weeks.

During the global lockdowns Reed began penning a film trilogy formerly titled ‘Supernova Kabaret’, and with his band’s manager, Dario Nikzad, suggesting the idea he should make a short musical film that would promote their 2020 album ‘Let’s Hear it for the King’, Dan set off on doing just that. Independently produced with the support of close friends, the 40 minute Short turned enough heads that a whole cinematic universe began to open up, eventually becoming the world of ‘Karousel’. Dan’s short film and subsequent scripts slowly began attracting accomplished creatives in the film and literary industry. He has been working with writer Kevin J. Anderson on the development of the script, and Graphic Novel story ‘Karousel: Survival of the Fittest’, documenting the explosive history of the characters who one day become both protagonists and antagonists in the story’s not too distant future.

Reed states- “I realized I would need a ton of concept art to share the vision in my head, and working in a visual medium it was imperative being an unknown director. When I realized it could cost up to $2000 for a single concept art panel done by a pro, as an artist who loves painting on canvas I decided to learn how to create digital art starting in December 2023. The time has now come to start sharing Karousel with the world, beginning with presenting the main characters in their youth. The year is 2064, where all of mankind’s best hopes for the future have failed, forcing humanity to fend for themselves in the brutal streets of a dystopian corporate technocracy. We appreciate all of you who dive into this world, and your support to see the story of Karousel come to life!”
